Sustainability
Rooted in Nature.
At Corkbark UK, we believe the best materials come from the earth, harvested with care, delivered with purpose. Our cork is more than a product; it's a story of ancient forests, responsible stewardship, and a deep respect for the natural world.

Where Our Cork Comes From
Our cork is sustainably harvested from the cork oak forests (Quercus suber) of Portugal. These forests, known as montados, form the world’s most biodiverse cork-producing landscape and are among the most ecologically rich habitats in Europe. They are home to endangered species including the Iberian lynx and the black stork.
Cork oak trees are never felled. Instead, the bark is carefully stripped by hand every nine to twelve years, a tradition practised for centuries. Each harvest allows the tree to regenerate, absorbing more CO₂ in the process. A harvested cork oak absorbs up to five times more carbon than an unharvested one, making cork one of the few truly carbon-negative natural materials available today.
Our Sustainability
Zero deforestation. No trees are cut down in the production of our cork. Ever.
Naturally renewable. Cork bark regenerates fully after each harvest, with trees living for over 200 years.
Biodegradable & plastic-free. Our cork products leave no lasting footprint and they return to the earth as they came from it.
Low-impact processing. Cork requires minimal processing compared to synthetic alternatives, reducing energy use and chemical inputs.
Supporting biodiversity. By sourcing from responsibly managed montado forests, we help protect one of Europe's most important ecosystems.
